A timely reminder from today’s worship service:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
James 1:22
“The Bible recognizes no faith that does not lead to obedience, nor does it recognize any obedience that does not spring from faith. The two are opposite sides of the same coin.”
A. W. Tozer
These words prompted a thought:
The real test of faith is what it produces in us.
Faith can become a livelihood while obedience remains a message for others.
The Word can be heard, studied, taught, discussed, and even used to instruct others, yet none of this is a substitute for doing what it says.
And when faith is monetized and blind obedience is demanded, faith becomes a means of gain and obedience a means of control.
The Word is not merely something to hear or teach. It is something to do.
So the question is simple:
Do we actually do what we teach?
Faith should produce obedience. And obedience should begin with ourselves.
The Word must be lived.
