Some roles put us in the spotlight when we would rather stay in the background. For me, as an introvert, being the person at the front has never felt natural. Yet some responsibilities require it.
Sometimes it means taking the floor. Sometimes it means leading a meeting. Sometimes it simply means being visible because the role requires it.
From the outside, visibility can look like a choice. It isn't always. And when someone is often seen at the front, it can be easy to mistake visibility for a desire to be seen.
The reality for me is often the opposite. I step forward because the role requires it, even when being in the spotlight still makes me uneasy.
Perhaps that is the quieter tension of responsibility: being seen without seeking attention, and being present without needing to be noticed.
